            Cherrapunjee, Meghalaya, India is also known as Sohra, is a high altitude town in the Northeast indian state Megalaya. This place known as the wettest place on earth. It's known for it's living root bridges, made from rubber tree's. It still hold the all-time record for the most rainfall in a calendar month and an year. And it is one of the beautiful natural place in India. The cities annual rainfall average stands at 11777 millimeter. Cherrapunjee receives both the South West and North East monsoonel wind in a single monsoon season. The driest months are November, December, January and February. 



Way to Cherrapunjee

              Cherrapunjee, Megalaya, India is a place in India's North East part. By air, Umroi airport is the nearest airport and it was 35 kilo meter away from the place. And helicopter service also available. There is a helicopter service available between Guvahati airport and shillong helipad. By train, there are no railway lines in Megalaya. Guvahati is the nearest railway station and it was 104 kilo meter away from the cherrapunjee. By road, from shillong to cherrapunjee have 58 kilometers. And shillong is connected with Guvahati by NH 40.

About the place

             Cherrapunjee is the land of the rainfalls. A land that is renowned for being the wettest place on earth. The land is covered with greenery, rainforest and dew fogs. Waterfalls are the main attraction. And there is many natural waterfalls here. This rainforest in Meghalaya is awe-inspiring. The Cherrapunji of the East Khasi Hills district of India is also known by the name Sohra. Cherrapunji is about 56 km from Shillong.

             The road leading to Mouisantam village and Cherrapunjee is same. Seven Sisters Falls is a popular tourist attraction here. We can see Seven waterfalls together. Best of luck to see seven beautiful sisters falling from the mountain to the lower reaches. Rarely did they show up in front of visitors because of high fogs. So villagers consider it was a gift of God to see seven Sisters together. Constructed many natural roads and baby bridges for easy walking and taking pictures of seven Sisters.

             The living bridge' is unique to this country. When the water crosses and covered all the places of the river, the 'Khazis' of the natives make a hanging bridge to cross the river. The bridge was built by the strong roots of the tree called Sheimayal, which gradually crossed over to the other side using areca palm pillars. There is also a double decker bridge like this one in Megha Laya. If you cross the bridge, you will see Bangladesh.Mavli Yong is also one of the cleanest villages in Asia.

               Meghalaya is home to over 1000 caves.  The largest is the Kamlait Cave, which is 22.2 km long.  This is the Jindia hill.  The Kam Kotsadi Zintong Pamiyang, Krem Umtulu and Kremchimpu are some of the biggest caves in this mountain range.  Khasi mountain Columns Kraim Mawkdap, krem Lumputu,  Teitencal Valvacol in Garoom Mountains and Cijudobcol also attract cavemen.
