Kanyakumari is a town in Kanyakymari district in the state of Tamilnadu in India. The city also known as 'Cape Comorin'. Kanyakymari is a coastal town in Thamilnadu. The name Cape Comorin named by the British rulers during the time of their ruling and the city is very famous for watching sunrise and sunset over the ocean. This is the southernmost town in mainland India and it is sometimes reffered as the 'End of the land'. Way to Kanyakumari
The town is situated 20 km South of Nagarcoil, the head quarter of Kanyakymari district and and about 90 km south of Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala state. By air, Trivandrum international airport is the nearest airport and it was more than 90 km away from Kanyakymari. By train, Kanyakymari railway station is connected to all major cities of India. Himasagar express is run between kanyakumari town and jammu thawi is the longest running locomotive. Nagarcoil is the major railway junction. By road, Kanyakumari is well connected with nearest cities.
About the place Kanyakumari
Kanyakumari Beach is the most breathtaking sight of the beach and the land.kanyakumari beach is the place, that three oceans in India, Arebian sea, Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean confluence each other in a one place. It is a land of history and culture. And a pilgrimage. Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent, is one of the few places in the world where the sun sets and sunrise we can see in one place.sunset and moonrise will be visible simultaneously on the time of pournami.
All visitors first explore the sunrise. Then take a look at the surrounding areas for the rest of the evening, and I the evening they came back to the coastel area to cover the sunset. Gandhi Mandapam, Vivekanandapara are the best views in the place. The Gandhi Mandapam was built in the year 1956, the site of Mahatma Gandhi's ashes kept there in 1948. The mandapam is 79 feet high, making it the age of death of Gandhiji. Vivekananda Memorial is located on a rock by Swami Vivekananda penenced there. History has it that Swami Vivekananda meditated on this rock for days. There is also a meditation center attached to it.
There is also a Sripada rock which is believed to be the Devi Kanyakumari peneced with only one feet. The fort caller Vattakota is another attraction of Kanyakumari. Built by Marthanda Varma. Inside the fort, you can see the sloping rock surface and cannon ruins that were used to roll the cannon into the fort. Vattakottu is protected by the Archaeological Department of the central government. Inside the fort, there is a rectangular pond. Waterfalls, Beaches, Tourist Places, Famous places of Worship ... There is many more places to vist there. The statue of the Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar, built in the sea, will also be a surprise to the tourists.
